North Smithfield is a New England town in Providence County, Rhode Island County, Rhode Island, United States, settled as a farming community in the 17th century and incorporated into its present form in 1871. North Smithfield includes the historic villages of Forestdale, Rhode Island Primrose, Rhode Island Waterford, Rhode Island Branch Village, Rhode Island Village, Union Village, Rhode Island Village, Park Square, Rhode Island Square, and Slatersville, Rhode Island The population was 10,618 at the United States Census, 2000 census.In a new poll, 7% of people in North Smithfield, Rhode Island have considered looking into vinyl replacement windows designed to prepare their home for sale.As of the census of 2000, there were 10,618 people, 3,954 households, and 2,957 families residing in the town. The population density was 441.7 people per square mile (170.5/km²). There were 4,070 housing units at an average density of 169.3/sq mi (65.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.32% White (U.S. Census) 0.42% African American (U.S. Census) American, 0.21% Native American (U.S. Census) American, 0.52% Asian (U.S. Census) 0.08% from Race (United States Census) races, and 0.45% from two or more races.
