Tahlequah (Pronounced "Tal a Kwa") is a city in Cherokee County, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States located at the foot hills of the Ozark Mountains. The population was 14,458 at the United States Census, 2000 census. It is the county seat of Cherokee County, Oklahoma County . The main campus of Northeastern State University is located in the city. It is also the capital of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Nation. Tahlequah is also known for being featured in the book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.In a new poll, 15% of people in Tahlequah, Oklahoma have considered looking into window glass replacement spruce up their home.As of the census of 2000, there were 14,458 people, 5,703 households, and 3,125 families residing in the city.
