Wooster ( , first syllable with the vowel of 'wood)' is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Wayne County, Ohio County . The municipality is located in northeastern Ohio approximately 50 mi (80 km) SSW of Cleveland, Ohio Wooster is noted as the location of The College of Wooster. Wooster was established in 1808 by John Bever, William Henry, and Joseph Larwill, and named after David Wooster, a general in the American Revolutionary War . The population was 24,811 at the United States Census 2000 census. The city is the largest in Wayne County, and the center of the Wooster United States micropolitan area Statistical Area (as defined by the United States Census Bureau in 2003).
