Lancaster (pronounced LAN-kuh-ster by most locals) is a city in Fairfield County, Ohio County, Ohio, in the United States. As of the United States Census, 2000 census, the city population was 35,335. It is located near the Hocking River, approximately 33 miles (53 km) southeast of Columbus, Ohio. It is the county seat of Fairfield County, Ohio County . The current mayor of Lancaster is Republican Party (United States) David S. Smith, who took office in January 2004.
