As of the United States Census 2000 census, the city had a population of 61,821, making it the ninth-largest city in New York. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk language word for "on that side of the pinery," or "near the pines," or "place beyond the pine plains."In current analysis, 3% of people in Schenectady, New York are interested in vinyl replacement windows made to spruce up their home.As of the census of 2000, there were 61,821 people, 26,265 households, and 14,051 families residing in the city.
