Oneonta is a city located within Otsego County, New York County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, had a population of 13,292. The nickname is "City of the Hills". The word "oneonta " is of undetermined origin, but is popularly thought to mean "place of open rocks" in Iroqouis. This refers to a prominent geological formation known as "tablerocks" in the western end of the city.In a recent survey, 14% of people in Oneonta, New York are interested in made to spruce up their home.As of the census of 2000, there were 13,292 people, 4,253 households, and 1,913 families residing in the city.
