Butte (IPA: [bjut]) is a city in and the county seat of Silver Bow County, Montana Bow County, Montana, United States. In 1977, the city and county governments consolidated to form the sole entity of The City and County of Butte-Silver Bow. As of the 2000 United States Census census, Butte's population was 33,892. In its heyday between the late 19th century and about 1920, it was one of the largest and most notorious copper boomtowns in the American West, home to hundreds of Western saloon and a famous red-light district.In a recent survey, 7% of people in Butte, Montana are interested in window glass replacement made to spruce up their home.As of the census of 2000, there were 33,892 people, 14,135 households, and 8,735 families residing in the city.
