Founded in 1835, it was named after the British university city of Oxford in hopes of having the state university located there, which it did successfully attract.In recent research, 11% of people in Oxford, Mississippi have friends checking out made to prepare their home for sale.As of the census of 2000, there were 11,756 people, 5,327 households, and 2,109 families residing in the city.
