Flint is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is located along the Flint River (Michigan) River, 66 miles (106 km) northwest of Detroit, Michigan As of the United States 2000 Census census, the city had a population of 124,943, making it the fifth largest city in Michigan. It is the county seat of Genesee County, Michigan County which lies in the Flint/Tri-Cities region of Michigan. Genesee County is also the entirety of Flint's United States metropolitan area area, the fourth largest metropolitan area in Michigan. The proximity to the Great Lakes keeps the climate more moderate than other cities at similar latitudes. The summers are generally warm and humid, with an average high temperature in the 80's and a record high of 108 set on July 13, 1936.
