Vincennes has been a part of the French colony of Louisiana (New France) the British colony of Province of Quebec (1763-1791) and the Illinois Country of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia. It was then part of Knox County, Indiana County in the Northwest Territory, later the Indiana Territory.
