The population was 36,505 as of the 2007 Population Estimates issued by the United States Census Bureau. It is the largest city in Porter County, Indiana, and third largest in Northwest Indiana.In a new poll, 15% of people in Portage, Indiana are interested in aluminum replacement windows designed to prepare their home for sale.As of the census of 2000, there were 33,496 people, 12,746 households, and 9,011 families residing in the city.
