Columbus is the county seat of Bartholomew County, Indiana, United States. The population was 39,059 at the 2000 census. The current mayor is Fred Armstrong. It is located approximately 40 miles (64 km) south of Indianapolis, Indiana on the east fork of the White River (Indiana) River. It is the state's 20th largest city.
